DIY MAXI SHIFT DRESS WITH PETAL SLEEVES

DIY MAXI SHIFT DRESS WITH PETAL SLEEVES

Hello Lovelies!
Trust you are all doing well. The Month of May is a very special month in our family because we get to celebrate three birthdays; for our two children and I. We are super-grateful to God for the gift of life and love!

I made this maxi dress because I needed something very comfortable for spring and summer. The fabric I used is Vlisco hollandias wax print. I love the quality of this print. Because I would be wearing this dress pretty much in the summer, I chose not to line it. I finished the inside of the dress with my serger. As usual, the dress has two side pockets… I could not have made this dress without pockets!

The highlight of this dress for me was the “petal sleeves”. I mentioned before that I planned on incorporating other sleeve variation in my sewing and this was a perfect opportunity to try out something fancy. I will definitely be adding petal sleeves in my future designs.
To achieve the silhouette of this shift dress, I simply added one inch of ease to my front and back bodices from the base of the armhole down to the hem. I also finished the neckline with decorative stitches from my Janome MC 9700.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
